Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra Series 1 with Omarchy
Twenty-seven exact-model Linux owners cover boot, graphics, sleep, power, ports and input. Three run Omarchy; four others run Arch Linux.
Bottom line
Three exact-model owners report using Omarchy: a 125H owner recovered Wi-Fi after a 3.3.3 update problem, a Series 1 owner stabilized an AX210 by keeping it on 5 GHz, and a 165H owner ran three displays on Omarchy 4.0.1 but found the stock screensaver could cause thermal throttling. Together they establish a real Omarchy desktop path, not a clean-install verdict or component-by-component validation. Firmware, graphics, wake and power behavior remain configuration-sensitive.
Should you use or buy it?
For an existing machine, use Linux 6.12 or newer, check the BIOS before diagnosing graphics or boot problems, and test suspend with the exact SSD and expansion cards you use. BIOS 3.07 requires 3.04 or newer and Framework says it fixes a Linux GPU hang. On a HiDPI or multi-display setup, disable the terminal screensaver or make the lock screen follow it quickly until a lower-frame-rate path ships and is retested. For a purchase, the replaceable memory, storage, wireless card and display reduce configuration risk, but the retained Omarchy reports do not establish a clean current installation path.

Detailed findings
Install and boot
Owners reached working Arch Linux, Fedora, Ubuntu, NixOS and Mint systems. Other reports found a two-DIMM no-POST state, intermittent unplugged boot loops, a no-POST failure after retimer work, Secure Boot setup failures and Mint NVMe timeouts after BIOS 3.06.
In practice Framework lists Linux 6.8 as the minimum kernel and 6.12 or newer as recommended. A working installation does not prove that a later BIOS, retimer or Secure Boot change will preserve the same boot path.
BIOS 3.07 changes the current baseline. Framework says the release fixes booting from partially locked self-encrypting drives, requires BIOS 3.04 or newer and prevents downgrades below 3.04. Project source

Desktop and graphics
One Arch report shows direct rendering through i915 and Mesa on the internal display, and one Ubuntu owner reported months without display trouble. Other owners reported intermittent artifacts, full-screen freezes on Fedora and Ubuntu, and a graphics board replacement after support review.
In practice The graphics stack can support an ordinary Linux desktop, but the result is not uniform across kernels, display servers and individual boards. The freeze report did not establish a single software cause.
BIOS 3.07 includes a Linux graphics fix. Framework says it fixed a condition in which the GPU could hang. That release note does not prove that every reported freeze has the same cause or is resolved. Project source

Internal display and brightness
The 2256-by-1504 internal panel was active at 60 Hz in one Arch configuration. Separate Fedora and Ubuntu reports describe a black display after wake, intermittent wrong-color pixels and graphics freezes while the system continued running.
In practice A working internal panel is directly reported, but so are intermittent failures that require a reboot. No retained report isolates whether the 2.8K panel changes the Linux risk.

Keyboard and backlight
The exact-model ArchWiki lists the keyboard as working. None of the retained owner reports separately tests keyboard backlighting or the full function-key row.
In practice Ordinary keyboard input has current project-documentation support. Treat the backlight and specialty keys as unreported here rather than assuming the hardware specification proves Linux control.

Touchpad and pointing
One Fedora owner temporarily lost scrolling, right-click and multitouch gestures after shutdown on BIOS 3.01, then reported that updating to BIOS 3.03 restored the touchpad. The current ArchWiki lists the touchpad as working.
In practice The failure and same-owner recovery are both retained. This supports current touchpad use but does not establish every gesture across every desktop environment.
Sources BIOS update restores lost touchpad gestures, Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra Series 1 on ArchWiki
Fingerprint and biometrics
The exact-model ArchWiki lists the Goodix 27c6:609c fingerprint reader as working and directs owners to fprint for authentication.
In practice This is current Arch project documentation, not a retained owner account or an Omarchy enrollment test. Desktop integration and resume behavior remain unreported here.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
One Arch owner identified working AX210 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A 125H Omarchy owner temporarily lost the Wi-Fi device after updating to 3.3.3 and explicitly reported recovery after another update and reboot. A separate Series 1 Omarchy owner found the AX210 repeatedly chase an unusable 6 GHz radio after the NetworkManager migration, then stabilized the link by forcing the connection to the 5 GHz band.
In practice The replaceable AX210 has a working path, but update state and a mixed-band access point can change the result. Forcing 5 GHz is a one-owner, one-router workaround, not a general reason to disable 6 GHz.
Sources Arch detects HDMI screens that remain blank, Later Omarchy update restores missing Wi-Fi, AX210 chases an unusable 6 GHz radio after migration
Speakers, microphone and audio
The Intel audio driver and PipeWire were active in an Arch report. A Fedora 43 owner stopped Bluetooth-headphone crashes by replacing WirePlumber, while an Ubuntu standalone-mainboard report found HDMI video but no audio after boot until reconnecting the adapter or suspending and resuming.
In practice The retained evidence covers the audio stack, Bluetooth output and HDMI output; it does not explicitly test the internal speakers or microphone under Linux.
Sources Arch detects HDMI screens that remain blank, Fedora logs out when Bluetooth headphones connect, HDMI audio is silent after boot until resume
Camera
The second-generation Framework webcam enumerated through the Linux uvcvideo driver in one Arch system report, and the exact-model ArchWiki lists the 32ac:001c webcam as working.
In practice That establishes a current camera path, but not video-call image quality, microphone behavior or privacy-switch behavior.
Sources Arch detects HDMI screens that remain blank, Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra Series 1 on ArchWiki, Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra Series 1 specifications
Suspend and resume
Hibernate and resume completed in one NixOS report, and one 125H Arch owner reported no sleep problems in ordinary use but did not test long battery-only sleep. Other owners reported intermittent failed wake, a black screen after wake and loss of deep idle after hibernation.
In practice Closing the lid is not a binary compatibility result on this model. Short sleep, overnight drain and device recovery remain separate questions, and the dock, storage controller and graphics-driver path can change the result.
Sources Hibernation raises later idle and suspend draw, Core Ultra 5 Arch owner reports light-use power draw, HDMI audio is silent after boot until resume, Ubuntu sometimes crashes while waking on a USB-C dock, Fedora display turns black after wake, NVMe swap cuts measured s2idle power
External displays and docks
One Omarchy owner used the internal 2.8K panel with 5K and 1440p external displays. HDMI video also worked after cold boot on one Ubuntu standalone mainboard, while an Arch owner found that several detected displays remained blank and earlier owners reported USB-C retimer-update failures.
In practice A practical three-display Omarchy setup is directly reported, but display detection does not guarantee an image and working video does not guarantee HDMI audio. Test the exact expansion card, bay, monitor and wake path.
Sources Omarchy HiDPI screensaver drives sustained CPU load, HDMI audio is silent after boot until resume, Arch detects HDMI screens that remain blank, Arch keeps receiving the same retimer updates, NixOS BIOS update leaves retimers behind
Battery, power and thermals
With the power-saving profile active, one 125H Arch owner observed 3 to 4 watts while reading static PDFs and no more than 10 watts during light scrolling. Separately, the stock Omarchy screensaver drove one 165H machine to about 531% CPU, 97 C and thermal throttling across three HiDPI displays. Other reports show SSD- and graphics-dependent sleep draw, battery-only crashes and persistent 200 MHz throttling.
In practice The 61 Wh battery is only part of the mobile-use result. Workload, storage firmware, graphics initialization, BIOS state and sleep history can change draw or stability. The Omarchy thermal report isolates a software-rendering workload rather than a general chassis defect.
Lower-frame-rate proposals remain open. One change would cap the screensaver at the focused display's refresh rate; another would expose a manual frame-rate override. Neither is merged or retested on this machine, and a 120 Hz HiDPI panel could remain expensive under the first proposal. Project source

Daily use
Repairability is the reason to choose it
Most major parts are replaceable, and one Linux reviewer changed the motherboard in about 20 minutes
Memory, storage, wireless, battery, display, camera, keyboard, touchpad, speakers and the mainboard can all be serviced. That matters here because the field reports show real differences between SSDs, memory layouts and individual boards rather than one fixed configuration.
Sources Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra Series 1 specifications, Framework Laptop 13 Core Ultra Linux review, Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra review, NVMe swap cuts measured s2idle power, BIOS 3.04 machine stops posting with two DIMMs
The two displays make different trade-offs
The 2.2K panel favors a simpler 60 Hz setup; the 2.8K panel adds pixels and 120 Hz at a battery cost in one Windows review
The higher-resolution matte display measured 451 nits and covered 117% of sRGB in Tom's Hardware's review. Its Windows battery test lasted 9 hours, 59 minutes, compared with 11 hours, 38 minutes for the prior lower-resolution Framework. That comparison is directional, not a same-generation Linux test.

Sleep behavior depends on the components
One SSD swap cut measured s2idle draw from 5-6 watts to less than 1 watt
A Fedora and Ubuntu owner traced high sleep draw to a Geil P4P drive with an Innogrit controller and reported the lower result after installing a Solidigm P44 Pro. A different NixOS owner restored normal post-hibernate draw by forcing the Xe graphics driver instead of i915. One 125H Arch owner reported no ordinary sleep problems but did not measure long battery-only drain. None of these results is an Omarchy sleep test.
Sources NVMe swap cuts measured s2idle power, Hibernation raises later idle and suspend draw, Core Ultra 5 Arch owner reports light-use power draw
Linux battery estimates span different workloads
One 125H Arch owner expected four to five hours of browsing; one 165H owner estimated Linux ran one to two hours less than Windows
With the power-saving profile active, the Arch owner observed 3 to 4 watts on mostly static PDFs at 15% brightness and no more than 10 watts while continuously scrolling light web pages. The 165H owner estimated about eight hours of office work or five hours of video on Windows, with Linux shortening each by one to two hours. A separate Core Ultra 7 owner with more than a year of Arch and Windows use said battery life was better on Windows but the fans were more intrusive there; no runtime or noise measurements were provided. These are owner observations with different setups, not controlled endurance tests.
Sources Core Ultra 5 Arch owner reports light-use power draw, Core Ultra 7 owner compares Windows and Linux runtime, Core Ultra 7 Arch owner reports lighter-game performance
The stock HiDPI screensaver can become a thermal workload
One three-display Omarchy setup reached about 531% CPU and 97 C during the default screensaver
The 165H owner isolated the cost to software-rendered Foot windows running the effect at 120 frames per second over the internal 2.8K panel, a 5K display and a 1440p display. Disabling the screensaver or letting the lock screen take over sooner is the current bounded workaround; two proposed frame-rate changes remain unmerged.
Sources Omarchy HiDPI screensaver drives sustained CPU load, Open Omarchy screensaver refresh-rate change, Open Omarchy screensaver frame-rate override
Four bays are flexible, not friction-free
USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet and card readers are swappable, but the card and bay become part of the Linux result
The expansion system lets owners change the port layout without replacing the laptop. The report record also includes retimer-update failures, a detected-but-blank HDMI screen, cold-boot HDMI audio trouble and a failed wake while a USB-C dock was connected.
Sources Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra Series 1 specifications, Arch keeps receiving the same retimer updates, NixOS BIOS update leaves retimers behind, Arch detects HDMI screens that remain blank, HDMI audio is silent after boot until resume, Ubuntu sometimes crashes while waking on a USB-C dock
The keyboard is comfortable; the touchpad is conventional
A reviewer liked the 1.5 mm keyboard, while clicks were easiest on the lower half of the hinged touchpad
The physical controls are replaceable, and the keyboard has a backlight. Those review observations came from Windows. On Linux, the only explicit touchpad report in this corpus is a Fedora failure that preserved movement and left tap but lost scrolling, right-click and gestures.

Performance
Software development and general compute
The Core Ultra 7 155H is capable, but Linux tests often put the older Ryzen 7 7840U Framework ahead
Phoronix tested the 155H on Ubuntu 24.04 with Linux 6.10 and found it broadly similar to another 155H laptop, stronger in some single-threaded work and weaker in some heavily threaded work. Tom's Hardware measured 2,362 single-core and 12,195 multicore in Geekbench 6 under Windows. These are hardware-capacity results, not Omarchy benchmarks.
Sources Framework Laptop 13 Core Ultra Linux review, Framework Laptop 13 Intel Core Ultra review
Sustained CPU work
A Windows review finished a 4K-to-1080p transcode in 5 minutes, 48 seconds, with a loud fan under sustained load
The same review's Cinebench 2024 loop settled around 955-970 points with an average 83.5 C CPU package temperature. The keyboard center reached 33.3 C and the underside hotspot 39.2 C. No retained report measures sustained Omarchy performance.
Integrated graphics and lighter games
One Core Ultra 7 Arch owner, who thought the processor was a 155H, reports good Skyrim performance with a modest mod list
The owner broadly said the laptop could handle older demanding games, newer midrange games and MMOs; Skyrim was the only named game, and no settings or frame rates were supplied. The 155H and 165H have one more Xe core than the 125H, but every option is integrated graphics and the owner did not describe it as a gaming laptop. Separate Fedora and Ubuntu reports include graphics freezes, and Framework says BIOS 3.07 fixes one Linux GPU-hang condition. There is no retained Omarchy gaming benchmark.
