Dell XPS 14 DA14260 with Omarchy

Twenty-two exact-model reports show a fast-moving Linux baseline: Omarchy runs, but display, audio, camera, Wi-Fi and suspend results still change with the kernel and setup.

Compiled from 22 exact-model field reports: 19 on GitHub, one on GitHub Gist, one on Reddit and one on Linux Mint Forums. Report mix: 13 Omarchy · two Arch-based · seven other Linux Updated

Bottom line

The DA14260 has a real Omarchy path, but it is still an early Panther Lake Linux machine. Thirteen Omarchy reports establish working desktop, RGB-camera and external-display paths alongside OLED, audio, suspend and reset failures. Basic Wi-Fi works and the old sustained-upload memory failure is fixed in Omarchy's current kernel; Wi-Fi 7 remains a separate validation gap. Infrared face unlock also works for one exact Omarchy owner, but only through an external fix pack rather than the stock installation. Canonical certifies two exact configurations only on a custom Ubuntu image, and no exact stock Arch report closes the gap between that evidence and Omarchy's patched Panther Lake kernel.

Should you use or buy it?

For a new purchase, the 1920-by-1200 LCD avoids the reported OLED display paths and lasted much longer in one Windows battery test, but it still needs current kernel support for audio, pointing and wireless. Memory is soldered and tied to processor choice: 16 GB comes with the lower-core chips, while 32 GB or 64 GB requires the Ultra X7 or X9 and also brings Arc B390 graphics. Existing owners should update system firmware through LVFS, keep a known-good kernel, test Wi-Fi 7 if it matters, both speaker channels, microphone, the haptic touchpad and several suspend cycles, and plan for adapters because every data and display port is USB-C.

Detailed findings

Install and boot

Working reports

Omarchy and Fedora owners reached running desktops, and Canonical certifies two exact configurations on a custom Ubuntu image. A CachyOS 6.19.10 kernel initially hung during normal boot, but the same owner later booted 7.0-rc6 to a working desktop with audio. The project closed the old regression after reporting that its current package had advanced to 7.1.4-2. Omarchy's separate OLED migration failure was fixed on two machines and patched in version 3.7.1.

In practice Current evidence establishes working installation paths, not a trouble-free stock Arch baseline. The successful CachyOS retest used a locally patched ZFS build, and Canonical warns that a standard Ubuntu image may not behave like its certified build. Keep current installation media and an external pointer available.

Desktop and graphics

Mixed results

The Intel graphics path reaches usable Fedora and Omarchy desktops, including the OLED at its native resolution. Early Fedora showed visibly choppy pointer motion. An exact Omarchy audit later found the upstream kernel's hardware quirk active: it disables Panel Replay on the affected Dell and LG combination rather than restoring its wake timing.

In practice Graphics acceleration works, but display smoothness and low-power panel behavior remain kernel-sensitive. Removing the old user-supplied Panel Replay disable flag fixes a different boot problem; the current upstream hardware quirk still disables the feature safely. Stock Arch contains that quirk, but has not been tested successfully here.

Internal display and brightness

Mixed results

Fedora drove one OLED panel at its native resolution with working touch, while an early kernel produced choppy visible updates. Omarchy reports separately document a frozen OLED after one update and brightness values changing without visible dimming.

In practice Fedora 6.19.11 removed one owner's cursor symptom, and Omarchy's DPCD backlight setting restored brightness range on another panel. Neither result applies automatically to the lower-resolution LCD.

Keyboard, hotkeys and backlight

Working reports

One exact Fedora owner reported that all buttons worked and used the keyboard for daily browsing and setup work.

In practice This establishes basic keys and controls in one other-Linux report. It does not isolate every shortcut, keyboard-backlight level or Omarchy binding.

Sources DA14260 Fedora installation and kernel report

Touchpad and pointing

Mixed results

The Fedora 43 live image lacked touchpad input. After installation and a 6.19 kernel update the touchpad worked with choppy on-screen motion, and kernel 6.19.11 removed that visible cursor problem for the reporting owner.

In practice Current kernels have a working path, but live media can still be too old for installation without an external mouse. The report does not establish the same haptic behavior under Omarchy.

Fingerprint and biometrics

Mixed results

One stock Omarchy report did not expose the Himax infrared camera. Another exact DA14260 owner later confirmed infrared streaming and Howdy face unlock on Omarchy with an external camera fix pack, including a measured illuminator test. A separate Omarchy owner made RGB face recognition work through the processed color-camera node, and an open NixOS profile now carries an opt-in infrared path.

In practice Infrared face unlock is possible, but it is not stock Omarchy support. It requires third-party camera modules and setup, and fix-pack version 1.0.4 had a boot-critical defect corrected in 1.0.5. RGB recognition without the infrared anti-spoofing sensor is a separate and weaker security result.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Mixed results

Fedora gained working Wi-Fi after a 6.19 kernel update, Linux Mint connected under an Ubuntu-based kernel, and one CachyOS owner measured normal Wi-Fi 6E rates on 7.0-rc6 after disabling Wi-Fi 7. Sustained outbound traffic on an older Omarchy kernel triggered memory exhaustion and an iwlwifi firmware restart. The thread's latest technical review identifies the matching upstream TSO fix in Linux 7.0.11 and confirms both parts are present in Omarchy's current 7.1.8 kernel. Linux 7.2 and C106 firmware validation tracks a separate Wi-Fi 7 throughput question, not a reproduced current Omarchy defect.

In practice Basic Wi-Fi has current working evidence, and the old memory-exhaustion path is fixed in the current Omarchy kernel. Wi-Fi 7 performance remains unverified on this exact machine, so buyers who need it should treat Wi-Fi 6E as the established result.

Speakers, microphone and audio

Mixed results

Current positive evidence includes working SoundWire audio on CachyOS 7.0-rc6 and model-specific speaker tuning shipped in Omarchy 4.0. Older Linux Mint and Fedora reports reached partial or thin output, while a newer openSUSE 7.2.2 regression again exposed no card. An intermittent Omarchy SoundWire dropout silenced one side until playback restarted, while a custom NixOS profile reports speakers and microphone working.

In practice Omarchy now tunes the speaker output, but device detection and tuning are not a complete audio verdict. Check both channels, microphone, the 3.5 mm jack and behavior after idle and resume. The proposed keep-awake workaround for one-sided dropout remains a draft, costs idle power and had not completed a long soak.

Camera

Mixed results

The RGB camera works through Omarchy's IPU7 stack, and owners have used a processed relay for face recognition and 4K capture under custom Arch-family and NixOS setups. A separate Omarchy report found a restart-hook collision after suspend-then-hibernate, while Fedora initially had no ordinary application camera despite newer kernels.

In practice Ordinary video can work, but it depends on the processed camera node, format conversion and application path—not merely the kernel exposing raw IPU devices. Test the actual browser or call application and again after sleep.

Suspend and resume

Mixed results

One Fedora owner reported working standby. Other exact reports include an Omarchy hard reset near suspend, a camera-recovery unit collision and an OLED Panel Replay timing path hidden behind a safety quirk. The separate Fedora audio-resume failure was narrowed to pavucontrol 6.1; the same owner could not reproduce it after moving to 6.2, though testing was limited, and the kernel-side stale-DMA fix reached mainline Linux 7.2.

In practice Suspend works, but post-wake component recovery and the hard-reset report keep this mixed. Test repeated cycles and then check the display, camera, speakers, microphone and network rather than stopping when the screen lights. The old Fedora DSP failure is a dated software-path result, not an unqualified current warning.

External displays and docks

Working reports

An external DisplayPort display remained usable while the internal panel was frozen during the Omarchy 3.7 graphics regression.

In practice This is one direct DisplayPort result. It does not establish every dock, adapter or multiple-monitor configuration.

Battery, power and thermals

Mixed results

One exact Omarchy owner reported roughly weekly hard resets around battery use, then reported no recurrence after a system-firmware update and confirmed the result a month later. A later CachyOS commenter on an XPS 14 said resets persisted with newer firmware, but did not retain the exact DA14260 suffix. The OLED safety quirk gives up Panel Replay's idle-power benefit, and the proposed speaker-dropout workaround keeps the speaker sink awake at an additional idle cost.

In practice The original reset improved, but the record does not establish whether firmware fixed a software problem or whether configuration or hardware differences explain the later report. Test repeated battery transitions and suspend during the return or service window. No retained Linux source measures battery runtime.

The LCD and OLED are different bets

LCD favors battery life; OLED favors color and touch but has the known Omarchy display failures

Dell's matte LCD is 1920 by 1200, non-touch and can vary from 1 to 120 Hz. The 2880-by-1800 OLED adds touch, deeper contrast and wider color at 20 to 120 Hz. Both direct display failures in this corpus identify the OLED resolution; the LCD has no retained Omarchy result, which means untested here rather than confirmed working.

Battery life depends heavily on the panel

20 hours, 41 minutes for LCD and 12 hours, 23 minutes for OLED in one Windows test

Tom's Hardware tested the two displays under the same 150-nit mixed routine. ComputerBase separately measured about 15 hours of 4K streaming and 14 hours of office work on its OLED unit at 200 nits. These results describe hardware capacity under Windows, not expected Omarchy runtime. Energy Star records 0.9 watt in its long-idle and sleep modes for one Ubuntu-listed configuration, but that standardized figure is not a lid-closed field test.

In the same Windows review, the Ultra X7 configuration transcoded a 4K video to 1080p in 4 minutes, 30 seconds, versus 6 minutes, 45 seconds for the Ultra 7. The faster configuration is also the path to 32 GB or 64 GB of soldered memory. No retained report measures compile or development performance under Omarchy.

Integrated graphics and light creative work

Arc B390 is available only with the Ultra X7 and X9; there is no discrete GPU option

The measured review found a large graphics gap between the 12-core Arc B390 and the four-core standard Intel graphics. The OLED also delivered much wider color coverage than the LCD. These are Windows capacity measurements; the field reports establish the Xe driver path but do not benchmark Omarchy graphics.
