Bottom line

The Linux record is broader than the known failures. Exact owner reports establish Intel desktop graphics, NVIDIA CUDA work, direct HDMI, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Red Hat's exact 21RT certification adds working audio playback and recording, camera, display backlight, networking, Thunderbolt and suspend functions under RHEL 10. Lenovo's exact-model Linux guide documents the keyboard, TrackPoint, trackpad and optional fingerprint setup paths, but it is not an owner test. The direct Omarchy report still leaves closed-lid dock boot unresolved, with no P16v retest or shipped fix in the current thread. A later Omarchy 4.0.2 report reproduced the same suspend and networking chain on different Dell hardware even though its dock had already appeared, so late Thunderbolt enumeration alone is not an established cause. Separate Ubuntu owners report kernel-dependent power failures and configuration-sensitive sleep and NVIDIA behavior. No exact-model Arch report establishes how Omarchy's closest base behaves.

This is most compelling when you need NVIDIA compute, professional certifications, two memory slots, two SSD slots or a large port selection. Prefer the 500-nit, 100% sRGB low-power IPS panel over the basic 45% NTSC panel unless you specifically need OLED. During the return window, verify the function row, keyboard backlight, both pointing devices and fingerprint reader instead of treating Lenovo's Linux instructions as an Omarchy result. For now, boot with the lid open and compare direct HDMI with docked DisplayPort. If a failed boot-time suspend leaves NetworkManager asleep, the exact P16v owner restored networking by restarting the service; the panel icon remained stale until the shell restarted. The proposed external-power lid-policy override has no P16v reboot confirmation. Keep a known-good kernel for rollback and use the LVFS firmware path. Lenovo warns that a 100 MB EFI system partition can block firmware updates and recommends 260 MB. Optional 5G needs the matching regional RW350 configuration and Lenovo's Linux setup.

What is reported

12 findings with cited evidence
  • Install and boot

Booting Omarchy with the lid closed on a Thunderbolt dock caused logind to start a suspend before docked-lid policy protected the session. The suspend never completed and networking stayed asleep. A later different-hardware report reproduced that chain even with an already-enumerated dock, so the P16v timing observation is not a complete cause. Ubuntu publishes an exact-model OEM support package and certifies two configurations on custom 24.04 images; Red Hat separately certifies one exact configuration for RHEL 10.

Open the lid for boot until there is a P16v owner-confirmed fix. This does not establish an installation or ordinary open-lid boot problem. The proposed external-power lid-policy override remains unverified, and the Ubuntu and Red Hat records do not predict Omarchy's Arch packages.

  • Desktop and graphics

One Ubuntu owner found Android Studio's emulator more usable under X11, but reported that the desktop's dark theme then required Nouveau rather than the proprietary NVIDIA driver. Linux Mint separately ran the internal display on Intel graphics, while two other owners reached RTX Pro GPUs for CUDA and Wayland applications. Red Hat certifies accelerated graphics on one exact 21RT configuration.

Intel desktop graphics and NVIDIA workloads both have positive evidence, but the Ubuntu report shows an application, display-server and driver tradeoff. No retained report establishes dependable hybrid switching or direct Omarchy GPU workloads.

  • Internal display and brightness

The Linux Mint owner reported the laptop screen available at 1920 by 1200 and confirmed that a monitor worked through direct HDMI. Red Hat's exact 21RT certification includes LCD backlight control.

The positive evidence covers the internal panel and backlight under other Linux systems. The reported display failure is limited to DisplayPort monitors routed through one Thunderbolt 5 dock.

  • Keyboard, hotkeys and backlight

Lenovo's exact-model Linux guide documents ordinary function keys, FnLock, audio and microphone controls, display brightness and selection, sleep, and optional keyboard-backlight controls. The retained owner reports do not verify those functions under Omarchy or Arch.

This is a documented Linux path, not a compatibility verdict. Test the function row, number pad and optional keyboard backlight during the return window.

  • Touchpad and pointing

Lenovo's exact-model Linux guide documents TrackPoint pointing, clicking and scrolling, its three physical buttons, and trackpad tapping, right-clicking, two-finger scrolling and zoom. No retained owner report tests those behaviors under Omarchy or Arch.

The operating paths are documented, but palm rejection, gesture behavior and daily reliability remain unverified. Test the TrackPoint and trackpad separately.

  • Fingerprint and biometrics

Lenovo's exact-model Linux guide says equipped configurations can enroll fingerprints through the desktop's Fingerprint Login settings. No retained source identifies the fingerprint device or confirms enrollment and login under Omarchy or Arch; face login is also unverified.

Fingerprint setup has a manufacturer-documented Linux path, but this profile has no owner result. Treat fingerprint and face login as separate return-window checks.

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Wi-Fi remained unavailable after the failed Omarchy suspend because NetworkManager never received the matching wake event. Restarting NetworkManager restored connectivity, although the shell's Wi-Fi indicator stayed stale until the shell restarted. A second Omarchy owner on different hardware reproduced both the stranded service and the recovery. In the separate Linux Mint report, Intel Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were both up. Red Hat's exact certification includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

This is a suspend-state failure, not evidence that the Intel radio generally fails. If it occurs, verify connectivity outside the panel after restarting NetworkManager. The optional 5G modem is a separate component with a vendor-specific Linux setup.

  • Speakers, microphone and audio

Red Hat's exact 21RT certification lists stereo audio playback, recording and HDMI audio as supported under RHEL 10. Linux Mint also loaded the Intel SOF, PipeWire and dock USB-audio paths, although that owner did not report a listening or microphone test.

There is a positive exact-model certification result for input and output, but no direct Omarchy audio result or owner assessment of speaker and microphone quality.

  • Camera

Red Hat's exact 21RT certification lists the USB camera as supported under RHEL 10, and Linux Mint loaded uvcvideo for the integrated Chicony camera.

That establishes a working certified camera path, not camera quality, infrared login or a direct Omarchy video-call result.

  • Suspend and resume

One Ubuntu owner forced lid-closed and monitor-connected sleep in the operating-system configuration. The Omarchy report's closed-lid boot suspend wedged before reaching the process-freeze stage. A different-hardware Omarchy 4.0.2 report later reproduced the same sequence, but no P16v retest validates the proposed lid-policy change. A separate Ubuntu report found that suspend, shutdown and reboot worked on OEM kernel 6.17.0-1020 and failed after updating to 6.17.0-1023. Red Hat certifies suspend on lid, to memory and to disk for one exact 21RT configuration.

Working, configurable and failing exact-model results coexist across kernels and distributions. Treat the external-power override as a proposal, not a fix. The Ubuntu kernel rollback and RHEL certification are useful comparisons, not confirmed Omarchy resolutions.

  • External displays and docks

A Linux Mint report found that two DisplayPort monitors connected through a Thunderbolt 5 dock were not detected. Direct HDMI worked and the dock's other ports remained available. The Omarchy report documents a separate closed-lid boot failure in which docked-lid policy did not prevent suspend.

Test direct HDMI and docked DisplayPort separately. A working dock for audio, USB or networking does not establish working video output.

  • Battery, power and thermals

One Ubuntu owner identified missed lid and monitor sleep as a major source of drain and reported a roughly threefold battery-life improvement after changing sleep behavior, firmware charging settings and CPU-frequency management. A Windows review of a Core Ultra 7 and RTX Pro 2000 unit measured 14 hours, 11 minutes of Wi-Fi browsing at 150 nits and 8 hours, 51 minutes at full brightness.

The owner result shows that Linux configuration can materially change battery use, but provides no absolute runtime or controlled comparison. The review establishes hardware capacity, not Omarchy runtime; panel choice and GPU load will change the result.

Changes over time

9 dated events
  1. Exact RHEL 10 certification published

Red Hat's 21RTZD5ECN record lists accelerated graphics, LCD backlight, networking, audio input and output, camera, power monitoring and three suspend functions as supported. This is RHEL certification, not Omarchy testing.

  2. Ubuntu owner restores lid and monitor sleep behavior

The owner forced sleep when closing the lid or using a monitor and identified missed sleep as a major source of battery drain. The report supplies no absolute runtime or controlled comparison.

  3. X11 changes the Ubuntu application tradeoff

Android Studio's emulator behaved better under X11, but the desktop's dark theme then depended on changing from the proprietary NVIDIA driver to Nouveau in this owner's setup.

  4. Docked DisplayPort failure reported

Linux Mint did not detect two monitors through a Thunderbolt 5 dock, while direct HDMI and the dock's other ports worked.

  5. Ubuntu CUDA workload reaches the RTX Pro 500

NVIDIA driver 590 and CUDA 13.1 ran a GPU logic-synthesis workload. The reported repeated-pass failure was later traced to application code rather than the GPU.

  6. Ubuntu OEM kernel regression reported

Suspend, shutdown and reboot failures appeared after a kernel update and disappeared when the owner returned to the previous kernel.

  7. Zorin and Wayland environment reported

A Core Ultra 9 and RTX Pro 2000 owner ran PlotJuggler under Zorin OS 18.1 and Wayland. The reported visualization problem followed the source data rather than the machine.

  8. System firmware 1.18 reaches LVFS

LVFS published Lenovo's cryptographically signed P16v Gen 3 system firmware 1.18 for native Linux delivery. Firmware availability does not resolve the separate dock or kernel regressions by itself.

  9. Closed-lid Omarchy dock boot failure reported

Closed-lid boot triggered suspend before docked-lid policy protected the session. The suspend did not finish, NetworkManager remained asleep and the issue has no P16v owner-confirmed fix.
